MANAGER, MARINE & SHIPPING OPERATIONS

 

JOB SUMMARY:

  • The Marine and Shipping Operations Manager oversees the daily management of the organization’s sales, supply planning, bunkering and terminal operations.
  • The position supports sourcing and marketing activities of assigned products.
  • Recommending initiatives that leverage an understanding of market trends and competitive movement, to provide continuous support to the business growth.

 

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

  • Develop, implement, and grow the organization’s sales, operations, customer service, supply and planning strategies.
  • Establish and maintain good business relations with local and international suppliers and distributors.
  • Improve the marketing of new and existing products.
  • Manage the day-to-day trading category roadmap to maximise volumes and margin.
  • Implement policies to optimize productivity across the department.
  • Ensure achievement of all Service Level Agreements with customers, suppliers, and distributors.
  • Understand customers’ goals, objectives, infrastructure, geographic presence, demand volumes and payment history.
  • Ensure compliance with company, customer and supplier policies and procedures to enhance operational safety and health.
  • Prepare periodic reports for Executive Management analysis and evaluation.

 

SUPPLY & TRADING

  • Perform analysis on historical purchasing patterns of existing and new clients; juxtaposing data with current market trends to support the final recommended customers’ supply portfolio balancing cost savings and supply security.
  • Manage entire Request for Proposal process for multiple customers.
  • Develop capacity for bunker trading operations and alliances.
  • Monitor market tools daily, to make optimal fuel purchase decisions resulting in savings opportunities.
  • Coordinate with Operations Support Services and Finance departments to reconcile inventories and positions for all petroleum product trading and accounting/reconciliation issues.
  • Enhance finance and hedging strategies to optimize trading position.

 

 

LOGISTICS

  • Responsible for loading and logistics operations in a safe and controlled manner and in compliance with the standards, procedures, legislations, and customers’ specific systems.
  • Maintain metrics and analyze data to assess performance and implement improvements.
  • Provide training, motivation, and direction for loading personnel.
  • Keep track of quality, quantity, stock levels, delivery times, transport costs and efficiency.

 

TECHNICAL AND ROLE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

  • Strong Interpersonal, Communication and Presentation Skills to communicate strategy with customers.
  • Ability to analyze contractual agreements.
  • Petroleum Industry supply chain knowledge.
  • Knowledge of fuel pricing and contracting mechanisms.
  • Ability to recognize market, refining, and supply nuances that impact daily fuelling decisions.

  • Ability to self-manage while managing assigned teams and projects.
  • Expert proficiency in the use of Microsoft skills

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field from a reputable university
  • MBA/MSc (Added Advantage)

 

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 7-10 years’ work experience in Shipping and/or Downstream Oil and Gas Operations.
